Berwick City’s U14A Boy's - Champions of the State and their Club

Berwick City’s U14A’s have been crowned 2018 Victorian State Champions going undefeated during the season. The ‘young invincibles’ only conceded 8 goals and scored more than 80 goals over 18 matches. However, this was not an overnight success. The majority of this team, led by coach Milan Mihajlovic have been together for over five years, with more than half the team only having ever played for Berwick City.

As the 8th largest soccer club in Victoria, participation, fun, embracing diversity and community are integral pillars that have seen the club grow to 57 teams, including our All Abilities team and 8 all-female teams. But for those that aspire to more, there is no need to look elsewhere as our Under 14A’s and many of our other junior teams have shown.

2018 was also a good year for former Berwick City junior Matt Millar who was signed by A League club Central Coast Mariners. Good luck Matt!

This year our 16A Boys won their league and finished Victorian State Runners-Up almost matching the 14A’s. Our 15A Boys missed out on winning the league on goal difference and our 14B Girls were crowned champions of their league. Our State One Women’s Reserve team also won their league.

Whilst it’s not about results, Berwick City have developed a great culture and provided a welcoming environment for players to develop, enjoy and love the game. We have excellent coaches that deliver modern training programs based on the FFA National Curriculum, we have good facilities that are only getting better and we have passionate, hard working volunteers that help to create an amazing club culture. And then we have the players and parents that make up our 57 teams, the Berwick City family who form bonds that will hopefully last a lifetime.

Along the journey, our 14A ‘young invincibles’ have learned to dribble as 5 year old’s in our Saturday morning program, learned to lose in the small sided Mini Roos games, learned to respect each other and their coaches and above all else, continued to ‘love the game’.

Congratulations to our Under 14 A Boys, Coach Milan Mihajlovic, Assistant Coach Ollie Pivac and to all the parents of the fine young men who are Champions of our Club.

From little things, big things grow!
