On a balmy evening, our senior men kicked off against Knox with four first team players out injured and without a recognised striker.
New midfield recruit Paul McEvoy was given the job of playing up front and he did not disappoint. In a high intensity first half, 'Macca' and the boys threw themselves at every contest and worked hard to create chances. It was a lovely run and cross by 'Macca' in the 24th minute that found Senahid Tokalic unmarked and he duly dispatched a cracking first time volley from inside the box into the bottom left corner of the goal which gave the Knox keeper no chance. 1-0 up at half time and the Berwick boys were looking comfortable but it wasn't until the 82nd minute when they finally put the game out of reach of a gallant Knox team. This time it was another makeshift striker who had come on for 'Macca', regular centre back Joel Witherdin showed silky skills to control with his chest and then knock a first time ball through to Tokalic who made no mistake one on one with the keeper. It was 2 for the night for Tokalic and three wins in a row for Berwick.
The Reserves worked hard and put on a good showing but went down 3-0.
Next week will be a tough test against one of last year's promotion contenders Brandon Park.
This will be our first home game of the season, but at our junior club facility whilst our new pavilion is still under construction.
